I'm black and I'm a member of the 1%

In the U.S. today, the average African-American household owns just 6 cents for every $1 of wealth held by the typical white household, and blacks make up just 1.7% of the top 1% of wealthy Americans. But there are black members of the 1% who are working to change that. Tanzina Vega investigates the historical and contemporary racial barriers to wealth creation in the U.S.

  1. Well ya if your culture is based on drugs and violence you arent going far except a couple of feet out infront of your door. Slavery ended hundreds of years. Black people stop victimizing yourself. Pfff.

  2. I feel like I’m watching “I have lung cancer, and I’m black”…..no offense to black but idgf about your race. I want to know about the asshole who paid CNN to divert attention from class inequality to racial inequality. Sorry but the people in this video are a distraction and it’s obvious as fuck. Stop being dumb and blind people!

  3. They might THINK of themselves as the 'top 1%'… but everything is really just a matter of perspective. Black or white, no-one got that rich honestly. Some would see them as the 'scum of the earth'… but 'scum' always floats to the top, huh? (So does 'cream'… but that's not good for you either, is it?)

  4. I am very PROUD OF YOU. Thank you for the example. Thank you for your striving. Sorry for the (5:26) pain you have experienced for your striving. (5:51) The fear and loneliness… You are loved and appreciated and apart of OUR GREAT History of Becoming. Give Thanks.

  6. The one percent better be careful who they piss off. Not so rich stepping over people on the way into the theater. Americans of all people should remember the French Revolution and England and why we all came here in the first place.

  7. There is one sad fact that the Universe must consider…………………………. black behavior…………..I shall say no more…..fix that problem, then, things will improve….

  8. Keep listening to rap music that glorifies robbing, doing and selling drugs and owning things you cant afford. I work very hard and have a very good life. I do not wear flashy cloths, Jewelry and only bought 1 new car in my life. (The one I gave my mom). Generational wealth is another code word for people living frugal and working hard .

  9. If we only have one percent of blacks being part of the one percent. That is cool but if the majority of your people are still at the bottom of the wealth scale. Then you too are poor.No wealthy black person can be above their own kind.It is not in our dna to be like that.If we cannot feed ourselves or provide mass shelter for our own kind then we are still poor.If we don't produce our own materials markets like shoe cloths and other what nots.We are not wealthy. I respect all of these black folks who was able to make it.But if they cannot produce in a unified manner a wave of black mass empowerment to empower those blacks who are in poverty the resources to be able to pull themselves out of poverty. Then all they are is a bunch of individuals rich black folks with money and big homes on tv.The jews will use the push and pull effect on themselves. This is why the mass majority of jews are wealthy and in control of their economic reality. They have a mindset of all of us are going to make this money. Leave no one behind. Those blacks who are bless with money must have that same mindset.

  10. Last time i checked the people that go by calling their selves the 1% are the Illuminati. These black people are part of that wicked occult..

  11. Im 16 my parents on crack and in jail while im raising my little brother trying to teach him how to be a man. At times not even knowing what we'll eat at night. Im so tired of being broke and not knowing where my next meal gone come from just to see all these rich people God someone save me before I loose it. Why me God – why do I have to live in so much pain? I can't live knowing im letting my brother down. I just want to be 16 make it stop make it stop

  12. This was cool but I must give respect to those who came before us. They mightve been slaves but they were some tough folks who did acquire wealth, built their own cities only to slaughtered bc they wanted better lives, bc they were black but they kept going, they kept rising. I cant imagine wanting to vote knowing I could be lynched & my family lynched right along with me.
